The Farms:

Aquiares is one of Costa Rica’s largest and most historic coffee farms, sitting high on the fertile slopes of Turrialba Volcano. The farm has produced coffee continuously for over a century and is renowned for it’s high-quality Arabica coffee.
In Ethiopia, smallholders farmers in the town of Banco Gotete selectively hand-picked their best crop, taking it to the nearby milling station for processing. Banco Gotete is located in Gedeo County in Ethiopia’s famed Yirgacheffe region, and the coffees in this area have a reputation for being some of the best in the world.

The Beans: Strength 2.5/5

Our Market Blend is delightfully complex, with smooth chocolate undertones complemented by cherry, lime and molasses.
The medium-light roast lends itself to shorter espresso extraction to allow the cherry and lime to blend seamlessly with the chocolate, with our recommended recipe following a 1:2 ratio with 18g coffee in 27 seconds.

Environmental/Social Commitment:

Aquiares Estate supports a thriving local community of 1,800 people, giving employment to over 300 people in harvest times. The coffee plots are interlaced with natural springs and countless streams and rivers, all of which are protected with forested buffer zones. The network of natural corridors throughout the farm connects the large, preserved forests in the two river valleys, providing a healthy environment for the local animals, birds, and plants.
In Ethiopia the local exporter, Legu Trading, sends agricultural officers to farms to help increase sustainability and boast quality, offering employment to 300 farmers year-round, rising to 600 in the high season in this role.
