Our Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Konga started out in the small town of Konga in the famed Yirgacheffe region.
Smallholder farmers here selectively hand-picked their best crop, taking it to the nearby milling station for processing.
At this point the coffee cherries were handed over to Primrose S.P., who paid a premium to the farmers. Primrose then processed the beans, milling and drying them on raised parchment beds, before the coffee was packed into 60kg sacks ready for shipping.
As a region, Yirgacheffe faces widespread poverty, and many farmers cannot afford enough land to get by on the revenue from coffee alone. This has traditionally hampered quality in the region home to coffee itself, and so to tackle this Primrose pay farmers over the odds for their coffee, and sends agricultural officers to farms to help increase sustainability and boast quality.
This Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Konga is sweet and fruity, with floral notes and hints of blueberry and fig.
And as with all our retail coffee packs, 10% of the profits from this bag go back to farmers.
